There is a NEW community library coming soon in Tanzania!
I recently visit a village called Nkuu Ndoo, Nkweshoo. It is sitting in the shadow of Kilimanjaro mountain and soon a library will sit in its shadow as well.
The Northern Lutheran Church diocese has been fundraising for their library since last June and has managed to secure just under $9,000 so far! This is even more impressive when you realize that it was all raised from Tanzania and not from any outside donors. Their needs are not so much funds then, but are people and any resources to get their library running in the next year.
As a member of the library committee for the new library project, Sarah Switzer will be acting as a consultant specializing in Community Library development processes.
We are looking forward to arranging for a volunteer work camp in partnership with UVIKIUTA, the organization that hosts the Chamazi Community Library. Construction is set to happen in August 2010, but materials are already being collected.
Stay tuned for more!
